Privacy Policy

Privacy (transparency) notice pursuant to General Data Protection Regulation Articles 13 and 14.

This notice is intended for individuals who use the HyperObjects app or otherwise interact with us, including visitors to this website. HyperObjects is operated by Judith Sun, Germany. Contact: hello@hyperobjects.app.

We obtain and process personal data in different ways depending on how you interact with HyperObjects and how we obtained your data, as set out below.

Your data is processed within the EEA. If this ever changes, we will ensure an adequate level of protection for your personal data and inform you of the circumstances and legal basis for any such transfer.

As a data subject you have the following rights. You can at any time ask us to tell you what personal data relating to you we are processing. You have the right to ask us to correct inaccurate data, delete it, object to our processing of it, or restrict that processing. In some circumstances, you can ask us to provide your data to another controller in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format. You have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal effects concerning you; HyperObjects does not currently use automated decision-making of this kind. Where we rely on your consent to process your data, you may withdraw that consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. If you are at all concerned about how we process your data, please contact us at hello@hyperobjects.app, and we will respond within 30 days.

We process your data to let you create an account, build and share posts, including photos, audio, and text, as part of HyperObjects' public archive of human-nonhuman relationships, keep the app running and secure, understand how the app is used so we can improve it, and contact you about your account and, where applicable, with newsletter updates. Creating your account and using the app's core features is processed on the basis of performance of a contract, since we need this data to provide the service you signed up for. Diagnosing crashes and understanding feature usage is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app working well and improving it. Newsletter communications beyond what's needed to run your account are processed on the basis of consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Specifically, we collect your email address, linked to your identity, for account authentication and for account, platform, and newsletter updates. We collect a user ID, linked to your identity, to operate and identify your account. We collect the photos, videos, audio, and other text you choose to post, all linked to your identity, and display it publicly as part of the app's core function. We collect data about your product interaction, such as app launches and feature usage, linked to your identity through our analytics provider, PostHog, to understand usage and improve the app. We collect crash and error data, linked to your identity through PostHog, to identify and fix technical problems. And we collect approximate, city- or region-level location derived from your IP address, linked to your identity through PostHog, to understand where our users are; we do not collect precise GPS location.

We do not collect contacts, browsing history outside the app, health data, financial information, or advertising identifiers. We do not run ads, sell your data, use it for profiling or targeted advertising, or allow AI-generated content on the platform.

When you create an account, you are also added to our newsletter; you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email or by contacting us. We will only send you other marketing material with your separate consent, which you can withdraw whenever you like.

We use PostHog, a third-party analytics and error-tracking provider, to process usage, crash, and approximate-location data on our behalf, within the EEA. PostHog does not use this data for its own purposes. We do not otherwise share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes, and we never sell it.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days. Without your data, we would not be able to create your account, let you post and use the app's features, keep the service running, or contact you about it. Almost all of your data comes directly from you, when you create an account and use the app.

In addition to the disclosures above, we may disclose your information to the extent required by law, in connection with actual or prospective legal proceedings, to establish, exercise, or defend our legal rights, or to a purchaser or prospective purchaser of HyperObjects if we sell or transfer the business. Except as described in this policy, we will never provide your information to third parties.

We take reasonable technical and organisational precautions to prevent the loss, misuse, or alteration of your personal data. Data transmission over the internet is inherently insecure, and we cannot guarantee the security of data sent over it.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time by posting a new version here. We will notify registered users of significant changes by email.

The app and website may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of those sites.

Our analytics provider, PostHog, uses cookies or equivalent device storage to recognise your device and associate app usage with your account, as described above; this data is linked to your identity, not anonymous. It is used only to understand and improve the app, and never for advertising or shared with third parties for their own purposes. Most browsers let you control or block cookies, and you can find general guidance on managing cookies at www.allaboutcookies.org. Blocking storage used by the app may limit some functionality.

HyperObjects is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
